West Coast Road Trip – Day 4

Corned Beef Rueben
Today is a day dedicated to shopping (and eating way too much)! An Auntie Anne’s sour cream and onion, and jalapeno pretzel in the Miracle Mile Shops serves as breakfast food to start off a our second day in Las Vegas.

Inside Greenberg Deli

A stop at Greenberg Deli in New York New York for a delicious and juicy corned beef Reuben served with potato salad and a pickle before the real shopping begins in Caesars Palace.  Ciao Ciao Cafe and Bar located in front the Armani Exchange store whips up some delicious, but pretty expensive gelato. A scoop of the Italian Pistachio Supreme costs a hefty $9.99 plus tax, and is devored in minutes.

By 5pm, and after hundreds of dollars spent on clothing, we refuel at Sushi Roku located on the 3rd floor of the Forum Shops offering a beautiful view of the strip. We start off with a toro tartar with Tokyo scallions and caviar. While the presentation was clean, this dish wasn’t the greatest. The pine nuts tasted a little stale, and the tuna belly was not the freshest either. Next was lobster tempura with miso glaze which had an uncanny resemblance to Chinese style deep fried fish (but of course with lobster) and a slightly spicy miso glaze instead of sweet and sour sauce. Last was the sushi course. Two pieces of incredibly fresh sea urchin sushi, and a decent tasting Shima roll – shrimp wrapped spicy tuna with cilantro and avocado.

Dessert. Serendipity 3 was conveniently located a few steps outside of the front doors from Caesars Palace. We shared a very large banana split under the canopy on yet another hot weathered Vegas night.

Just when I thought my food intake for the evening was over, while crossing the casino floors heading to the parking lot, we bumped into friends from Edmonton. And what are the chances! They had just landed and are heading to a late dinner at Augustan Cafe. We accepted the offer of drinks but ended up submitting to an appetizer of tempura vegetables with spinach dip while the other couple enjoyed the cafe’s special feast of steak and crab. As we drag our extremely full stomachs back to the hotel, we agree that tomorrow we will eat in moderation :)
